BGMEA seeks High Commission’s support to boost trade with India

President Faruque Hazan, a delegation from Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Associations (BGMEA), met Md Mustafizur Rahman, Bangladesh High Commissioner to India, in New Delhi and requested support for trade with India.

BGMEA Vice-President Shahidullah Azim, Chairman of BGMEA Standing Committee on Press, Publication and Publicity Shovon Islam and chair of BGMEA Standing Committee on Trade Mohammed Kamal Uddin, were also present.

The delegation went to India for the sourcing meet and roadshows jointly organized by BGMEA, Confederation of Indian Textile Industry in India, 9-12 February.

They also discussed the current trade situation between Bangladesh and India as well as potential ways to increase bilateral trade between these two neighbouring countries.

Faruque Hassan, President of BGMEA, stated that there are many areas in which India and Bangladesh could work together to achieve mutual trade benefits.

India is a potential source of manmade fiber-based fabrics as well as chemicals and other raw material. Bangladesh RMG exports are also possible, he stated.

To facilitate trade, the BGMEA President requested the support of Bangladesh High Commission to remove non-tariff barriers between Bangladesh India and Bangladesh.

He asked for the cooperation of the High Commission to address problems at land ports in order to speed up export-import processes.

Faruque Hassan also urged the High Commission to facilitate consular service and long-term visas in India for Indian businessmen.
